Zardoz is a 1974 Irish-American science fiction film directed by John Boorman and starring Sean Connery, Charlotte Rampling, and Sara Kestelman. The film was a box office bomb.
Zardoz is set in the year 2293 AD, in a future in which the Earth has been devastated by a nuclear war and the surviving humans have devolved into two societies: the Eternals, who live in a paradise-like utopia, and the Brutals, who live in a savage, primitive state. Zardoz is the god of the Brutals, who tells them to kill all of the Eternals. However, one of the Eternals, Zed (Connery), is not content with his life of luxury and begins to question Zardoz. Zed is sent to the Brutals, where he meets their leader, May (Rampling), and learns that Zardoz is not a god, but a supercomputer that has been controlling the Brutals. Zed then sets out to destroy Zardoz and bring freedom to the Brutals.
