About the Movie

The Witches is a 1966 British supernatural horror film directed by Cyril Frankel and starring Joan Fontaine, Alec McCowen, and Kay Walsh. The film is based on the 1954 novel The Witch of Exmoor by Ronald Tosson.

The film tells the story of a young woman, played by Fontaine, who moves to a small village in Devon, England, where she discovers that the local women are practicing witchcraft. McCowen plays the local vicar, who is initially skeptical of the women’s activities but eventually comes to believe that they are indeed witches. Walsh plays the leader of the witches, who is determined to stop the young woman from revealing their secrets to the outside world.

The film was poorly received by critics upon its release and was a box office flop. However, it has since gained a cult following and is now considered a cult classic.
