In the first part of J. R. R. Tolkien’s epic masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings, a shy young hobbit named Frodo Baggins inherits a simple gold ring. His Uncle Bilbo had found the Ring 60 years earlier, but kept it hidden in the Shire, their home in middle-earth. When Gandalf, a wizard, discovers that the Ring is in fact the One Ring of the Dark Lord Sauron, Frodo must leave his idyllic home to prevent Sauron from reclaiming the Ring and enslaving the world. Along the way, Frodo is joined by a fellowship of companions: Gandalf, Legolas the elf, Gimli the dwarf, Aragorn, Boromir, and his three Hobbit friends, Merry, Pippin, and Sam. Through perilous adventures and close escapes, they journey across middle-earth, encountering deadly enemies and discovering new friends, until they reach their final destination: Mount Doom, the only place where the Ring can be destroyed.
