About the Movie

The Goonies is a 1985 adventure comedy film directed by Richard Donner, who produced with Harvey Bernardi. The screenplay was written by Chris Columbus from a story by executive producer Steven Spielberg. The film’s cast includes Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton, Joe Pantoliano, and Anne Ramsey.

In the film, a band of kids who live in the “Goon Docks” neighborhood of Astoria, Oregon, attempt to save their homes from foreclosure and in doing so, discover an old pirate treasure map. During the course of their adventure, the Goonies encounter booby traps set by the pirates, as well as a group of criminals who are after the treasure.

The Goonies was released on June 7, 1985, in the United States to critical and commercial success. The film grossed $61.5 million worldwide on a budget of $19 million, and has since become a cult classic.
