Alice in Wonderland is a 2010 American live-action/animated dark fantasy adventure film directed by Tim Burton from a screenplay written by Linda Woolverton. The film stars Mia Wasikowska as Alice Kingsleigh, Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, Crispin Glover as the Knave of Hearts, and Matt Lucas as Tweedledee and Tweedledum. Loosely inspired by Lewis Carroll’s fantasy novels, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, and Walt Disney’s 1951 animated film of the same name, the film tells the story of a nineteen-year-old Alice who returns to the fantastical world she first encountered as a young girl, reuniting with her childhood friends: the White Rabbit, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the Dormouse, the Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, and of course, the Mad Hatter. Alice finds herself in a place called Underland, an alternate version of her own world that is home to living, talking animals and strange creatures. It is also there that she discovers that her true destiny lies.
