Alice in Wonderland is a 1951 American animated musical fantasy-comedy film produced by Walt Disney Productions and based on the Alice books by Lewis Carroll. The 13th of Disney’s animated features, the film premiered in New York City and London on July 26, 1951. The film features the voices of Kathryn Beaumont as Alice, Richard Haydn as the Cheshire Cat, Sterling Holloway as the Caterpillar, Verna Felton as the Queen of Hearts, and Ed Wynn as the Mad Hatter.
Alice is a young girl who falls asleep in a meadow and dreams of following a white rabbit into a large hole. She then finds herself in a strange place called Wonderland, where she has a series of adventures.
The film was not initially a box office success, but it eventually became a cult classic. It was re-released in 1974, 1981, and 1988. In 2010, the film was inducted into the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.
